Loft Boarding & Storage

Unlock safe loft storage — without crushing your insulation.

Most loft boarding jobs we're called to fix were laid directly onto the joists, squashing the insulation underneath. We do it the right way: raised loft legs lift the boards clear of the full 270mm insulation depth, so you gain storage without losing warmth.

  • Raised loft legs over insulation
  • Full 270mm insulation preserved
  • Insulated, draught-sealed hatches
  • Timber or aluminium loft ladders

Raised loft boarding — the technical bit

Raised loft legs (typically 175mm or 220mm) screw into the joists and carry tongue-and-groove loft boards above the insulation. This protects the thermal performance of your loft while still giving you a flat, walkable, well-supported storage platform. We can board out a single zone around the hatch, or the entire safely accessible loft footprint.

  • Survey to confirm joist spacing & headroom
  • Insulation topped up to 270mm if needed
  • Raised loft legs fixed to joists
  • T&G boards screwed down, joints staggered

Loft hatches and ladders done properly

An undersized, draughty old hatch is the weak link in many lofts. As part of a boarding project we'll typically upsize to a wider, insulated, draught-sealed hatch and fit a sturdy timber or aluminium loft ladder. The result: easy, safe access — without the cold draught down your landing every winter.

Lighting, electrics and safety extras

We can add loft lighting on a wall switch by the hatch, fit handrails to ladders for added safety, and install grab handles at the hatch opening. We always work to current electrical regulations and leave the loft tidy, bright and ready to use.
